How To Add A Slur In Musescore

Updated 2 years ago

A slur is a curved line betwixt two or more notes indicating that they are to be played legato—smoothly and without separation. Not to be dislocated with Ties, which join two notes of the same pitch.

At that place are a number of ways to add a slur to a score, and all may exist useful depending on the context (calculation a slur from the lines palette is also possible but not recommended).

Add slur in note-input manner

  1. While in Note input mode, type in the beginning note in the slurred section;
  2. Press Southward to begin the slurred section;
  3. Blazon in the remaining notes in the slurred section;
  4. Printing S again to finish the slurred section.

To accommodate all the properties of a slur (length, shape and position):

  2. Get into Edit mode on the slur;
  3. Click on a handle to select it, or utilise Tab to cycle through the handles;

    • Shift+ : Move to previous note.
    • Shift+ : Motion to lower voice (voice 2 to vocalism i etc.).

  5. To adapt the position of any handle, use whatsoever of the post-obit methods:

Note: The two outer handles adjust the offset and end of the slur, whilst the iii handles on the curve adjust the contour. The center handle on the straight line is used to move the whole slur up/down/left/correct.

Extended slurs

A slur tin can bridge several systems and pages. The start and cease of a slur is anchored to a notation/chord or residuum. If the notes are repositioned due to changes in the layout, stretch or style, the slur also moves and adjusts in size.

This example shows a slur spanning from the bass to the treble clef. Using the mouse, select the kickoff note of the slur, hold downward Ctrl (Mac: Cmd ) and select the terminal notation for the slur, and press S to add the slur.

Slur across staves

X flips the direction of a selected slur.

Dotted/dashed slurs

Dotted slurs are sometimes used in songs where the presence of a slur varies between stanzas. Dotted slurs are as well used to betoken an editor's suggestion (every bit opposed to the composer'due south original markings). To change an existing slur into a dotted or dashed slur, select information technology and then in Inspector ( F8 ) change Line type from Continuous to Dotted or Dashed.
